How to Maintain Your Aqueous Parts Washer for Maximum Performance
An aqueous parts washer is a piece of production equipment, and like any production equipment, it performs best when it's properly maintained. The good news is that aqueous washers — especially stainless steel models — require relatively little maintenance. A few simple tasks performed on a regular schedule will keep your machine cleaning effectively, extend the life of your cleaning solution, and prevent avoidable downtime.
Daily Tasks (5 Minutes)
Check the solution level — aqueous solution evaporates during operation, especially in heated systems. If the level drops too low, the pump can run dry. Skim floating oil using your machine's oil skimmer or a manual absorbent pad. Remove large debris from the filter basket or chip screen.
Weekly Tasks (15–20 Minutes)
Clean or replace the filter — a clogged filter reduces pump flow, lowers spray pressure, and allows particulate to recirculate. Inspect spray nozzles to ensure they're clear and delivering a consistent spray pattern. Check solution temperature to verify the heater is maintaining the correct setpoint.
Monthly Tasks (30–60 Minutes)
Test solution concentration with a refractometer or titration test kit and add detergent as needed. Inspect the pump and plumbing for leaks. Clean the tank interior if sludge is accumulating — stainless steel tanks are much easier to clean than painted steel since sludge doesn't adhere as strongly.
When to Change the Solution
There's no fixed schedule — it depends on contamination load and volume. Signs it's time for a fresh batch: visibly dirty solution that isn't improving, persistent odor indicating bacterial growth, decreased cleaning performance despite correct concentration and temperature, or excessive foaming.
